India-based non-profit organization Green Globe Foundation (EDUCATE-SAVE-SERVE), registered under the Indian Trusts Act, 1882, recently joined us as an SOS-International member. The Foundation is based in Kolkata (formerly known as Calcutta), the city of “ St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta”, West Bengal, and is dedicated to community transformation for climate and social justice.

The organization was founded by Sumon Prosad, a professional Social Worker (Master of Social Work, NGO consultant and human dignity, and justice), deeply inspired by the vision of “Creation Care”. What began as his personal calling soon grew into a structured initiative, with the establishment of a governing body and alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). Guided by the values of service, stewardship, and solidarity, Green Globe Foundation now operates as a youth- and community-driven movement for environmental and social change.
Green Globe projects and activities: Through their environment and biodiversity program, the Foundation has organized plantation drives, urban greening activities, and plastic waste segregation campaigns on 14th June 2025. Their flagship “Green Pulse 2025: One Day for Our E” program on World Environment Day earned recognition from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) for contributions to the global # BeatPlasticPollution campaign.

In the field of education, Green Globe runs the project “Prakriti Bodha” — a phrase from ancient Sanskrit meaning “Understanding Nature.” This program aims to provide moral and Ecological Education for the new generation of children. Currently, 30 unprivileged children are supported with learning materials, guidance, and small snack-based meals for their health. On 23rd August 2025, the Foundation organized a special plantation drive titled “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” (One Tree for Mother Earth). As part of this initiative, 30 trees were honored — 15 planted locally and 15 distributed among families as a living tribute to Mother Earth. The program also received a certificate of recognition from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India.
Community health and well-being remain another strong pillar of Green Globe’s mission. The Foundation runs the “Green Touch Homoeopathy Clinic” every Sunday from 9:30 to 11:30 AM, providing free consultations and medicines to over 35 patients weekly. Alongside treatment, the clinic promotes preventive healthcare, hygiene, and nutrition, offering holistic healing to those who might otherwise lack access to regular medical care in the needy community people.
Green Globe Foundation embodies the spirit of youth- and community-led transformation for people and planet. From its grassroots beginnings in Kolkata to its recognition by national and international bodies, the Foundation has grown into a model of how local initiatives can align with global sustainability goals. By joining SOS-International, Green Globe looks forward to sharing its best practices, learning from peers worldwide, and continuing to scale its impact in the service of climate and social justice.
