We are delighted to introduce another new member from The Gambia. Following their recent application and an introductory meeting, ‘Better Hands The Gambia’, has joined us as a Gambia-based NGO.
Better Hands Association is a women- and youth-led organization committed to driving sustainability, climate action and social justice. Better Hands Association empower young people (students) and women to take leadership in addressing the climate and ecological crisis through education, campaigns, and community action. Their commitment to intersectionality and social justice enables them to highlight how sustainability connects with issues of equality, wellbeing, and empowerment.
Better Hands Association The Gambia has several active projects based in grassroots engagement within education settings:

Sustainable Farming & Community Gardens
Promoting climate-smart agriculture and establishing community gardens that provide food security, empower women, and serve as practical learning hubs for sustainable farming techniques.
Youth & Women Empowerment
Training programs and workshops to build capacity in leadership, entrepreneurship, and green skills, enabling youth and women to lead community-driven climate solutions.
Environmental Awareness Campaigns
Organizing tree-planting activities, clean-up exercises, and advocacy events to foster environmental stewardship and resilience in local communities.
BHA’s Sponsorship Program
The BHA sponsorship program for school children is designed to break barriers to education by providing consistent support to vulnerable and underserved students. The program ensures that children from low-income families gain access to essential resources such as school fees, uniforms, learning materials, and mentorship opportunities.
BHA’s sponsorship program has not only reduced the financial burden on families but also empowered children to pursue their education with dignity and hope. BHA underscores measurable progress toward reducing school dropouts, promoting gender equity in education, and aligning with BHA’s broader mission of fostering sustainable community development.
BHA’s support for skills development of young women
BHA is committed to empowering young women by equipping them with practical skills that enhance their economic independence and social participation. Through targeted training programs, mentorship, and access to resources, the initiative provides young women with opportunities to build competencies in areas such as vocational trades, entrepreneurship, digital literacy, and leadership.
The program not only focuses on technical skills but also promotes confidence, self-reliance, and resilience, enabling young women to take an active role in shaping their futures. By reducing barriers to employment and creating pathways for sustainable livelihoods, BHA’s support for skills development directly contributes to breaking cycles of poverty and inequality.
With a diverse and innovative project portfolio, Better Hands Association The Gambia is providing a blueprint for a sustainable future through empowering women and youth through education. We are delighted to introduce them to our global network and look forward to following their work in future.
